A plastic water bottle that ends up in the trash might not seem like a big deal—but it adds up in a big way.

An
infographic recently created by Printwand compiles some of the most disturbing statistics related to disposable water bottles. Among these is the fact that over 38 billion water bottles end up in U.S. landfills each year. Many plastic bottles also wash into the ocean, killing 1.1 million marine creatures
annually. What’s more, the destructive impact of plastic bottles begins before they even arrive on the grocery store shelf. The water bottling process releases 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year, and creating one year’s supply of bottled water requires 17 million barrels of oil. Fortunately, reusable water bottles are a much more eco-friendly friendly option—one that will also save consumers plenty of money. Check out the infographic for more vital information.
